How are houses built?

Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Habitat builds simple, decent homes alongside our homeowner/partner families.

Do you give houses to families?

Habitat is not a giveaway program. In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest hundreds of hours of their own labor (sweat equity) into building their Habitat house and the houses of others.

Where does the money go?

Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with affordable loans. The homeowners’ monthly mortgage payments are used to build still more Habitat houses.

Welcome to Madison County Habitat for Humanity

We are an all volunteer organization and are affiliated with Habitat for Humanity International. In the last five years, we have purchased 10 acres of land, installed infrastructure, and built four homes in our Habitat village. Since its beginnings in 1998, Madison County Habitat has built six homes. As you click through our Web Page, look at where we have been, what is going on now and upcoming events.
